August 2015

August was quite a month! Michael and I got to celebrate our 10 years of marriage in Kauai and then when we got home our baby turned into a toddler and our toddler turned into a potty trained preschooler!

After Michael and I got home from Hawaii we all needed to recover from our vacation. I had Post Vacation Depression. I literally moped around the house. Lily had a crazy rash all over her body and Lucy was so clingy and wouldn't let anybody near her but me.

However Lily did get potty trained! And just in time for preschool to start next month. She can go like 3 hours and not pee too which is longer than I can go ha ha.She still wears a pull up for naps and bed time and usually takes one of those opportunities to go #2 but she will go #2 on the toilet occasionally. She worked so hard to fill out her sticker charts (one in each bathroom) to earn her puppy.

And Little Lucy also learned to walk soon after we got home from Hawaii! She started out just taking a few steps from my parent's wooden rocking chair to my dad on their blue living room carpet. Now she is really good and goes all over the place! Next month she'll probably be running.

It took us a few days to get out of our post vacation funk. Then we decided to go get a kitty :) We got Toothless at the animal shelter in Lindon. We didn't mean to get him right then. We were merely going to look. We thought we'd shop around before deciding. But we fell for sweet little Toothless and couldn't leave without him.He has been a really good kitty with the girls so far. Unfortunately he had an upper respiratory infection and tapeworms but other than that he has been a great pet. He is a nice addition to our little family.

We fit in a few more swimming sessions and splash pad days and helped Michael get his class ready for the new school year. He completely changed the look of his classroom. He hung a shower curtain in front of his garage door thing and he bought a bunch of lamps and hanging lanterns that he turns on and he turns off the overhead lights. He has cool new movie posters as well. It looks really nice.

We had to say good bye to Bentz. He and his family moved to MN for the next few years :(
Here are some pictures Nicole took when we went swimming at Aunt Joan's pool one last time with my family:

Then Michael and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary by dropping the girls off with Craig and Renee and going to PF Chang's and walking around University Mall. Michael got me these roses in these pretty little vases and a heart melting card. I gave him a card too.

A few days after our anniversary the stomach bug hit the Malouf girls in our house. Michael somehow didn't catch it even though he was right in the thick of it cleaning up barf and holding Lily's hair back. Lucy woke up with it on Monday morning throwing up copious amounts of yellow bile. I was worried she had a bowel blockage or something so I took her to the doctor but she was fine. Then I had to take a fecal sample to the vet for the cat since we saw a worm on it. I started to feel sick on the way there. On the way home I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. I made it to our garage and then I threw up in our bushes right in front of my mom who had just pulled into the driveway to bring us Pedialyte and bananas. A couple hours later it hit Lily and she had it the worst. She threw up 10 times! I made the mistake of giving her fruit punch to drink while she still seemed healthy. She threw it up all over her room. When I heard her crying and opened her door I thought she was bleeding from somewhere with all the red liquid on her. Her floor is stained red. We are getting it professionally cleaned right now as we speak!  It was a long day but by the next day we were done with the throwing up part but still had low fevers, body aches and diarrhea for a few days.

Then on Sunday I had to spend a few hours at the instacare with Lucy. She had a double ear infection. Poor girl can't catch a break! The Nurse Practicioner we saw made me so mad. She looks in Lucy's ears and Lucy is screaming and thrashing around because it hurts. She says, "hmmm they look pink but not bright red so lets dig ear wax out to see more red. We know its infection but let's see how bad" then she digs ear wax out while I'm trying to hold Lucy down as she screams. Then the nurse looks again and says, "Yep, still just pink, Maybe we should wait for antibiotics for a couple days until it gets worse. In the meantime you can give her Mucinex and use a humidifier." I convinced her in the end that antibiotics were the way to go for us since Lucy can't have Mucinex until she is 4 and I knew that by the next day they would be full blown ear infections. Lucy had a high fever and was pulling her ears like crazy. I'm just glad the Nurse came around in the end.

On Monday, the last day of August, Lily started dance lessons! It was so adorable. Lily was so excited and had a lot of fun. She is taking the class with her little friend Sophie. It'll be a fun hour every week her for her and for me to talk to Sophie's mom too :). Lily actually did really good for her first time!

Could they BE any more adorable?

I was supposed to start piano lessons the week of August 24th but ended up cancelling the whole week because of our illnesses. Instead I started August 31.. I have 5 students on Mondays which is a lot for me! But they are all so good so it was fun.

It was a fun month! I'm sad to see summer end but at the same time there is something nice about being back in the swing of a schedule.
